This 30 page booklet proves that the Catholic Church has always been and is the one true Church of Christ by explaining the many heresies through the ages. It includes a fold out chart that graphically presents the origin and progress of the heresies. This is a great resource for school, catechism classes and apologetics.5/5(2). It is also enlightening to find out what the early Church thought about asking for the intercession of the saints. The early Church Fathers of the Church were the most respected pastors and theologians of their day. Their opinion on matters of faith set the standard for what is today thought to be biblical Christian teaching.

Louis XIV was particularly fond of taking a hand in doctrinal matters; and those who surrounded him ended by believing that the king could supervise the Church and supply it with information on religious questions. Daguesseau, on 14 August, , went so far as to proclaim that the King of France ought to be both king and priest. Thus it was that, for example, in the midst of the war . Angels do the same thing: “[An] angel came and stood at the altar [in heaven] with a golden censer; and he was given much incense to mingle with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar before the throne; and the smoke of the incense rose with the prayers of the saints from the hand of the angel before God” (Rev. –4).

Kenneth D. Whitehead. James Hitchcock, History of the Catholic Church: From the Apostolic Age to the Third Millennium, Ignatius Press. This is a book that we have needed for a good while now: it is a one-volume history of the Catholic Church which goes back to the very beginning and brings everything up to date.   Mercy triumphs over judgment.” When looking for the meaning from any passage, it is always important to look at the context. This chapter, and indeed the whole book of James, is a letter from the apostle James to the Church about practical Christian living.
